Biography
Troy Bankord
Troy Bankord is the founder and principal of Troy Bankord Design, a landscape and interior design firm based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Troy was born and raised in Northern Illinois, and it was there that he developed an affinity for nature, architecture and design.
Influences and Inspiration
Coming from a family of contractors and interior designers, it was a natural progression for him to assist clients with their homes, creating dramatic and organically continuous indoor and outdoor living spaces. Having spent much time in Wisconsin, he also drew inspiration from the connective indoor + outdoor design aesthetic emphasized by Frank Lloyd Wright – a controversially respected architect of world renown. He remembers marveling at the layered, fossilized limestone along the streams of his backyard…the deep green moss covering the trees and the 18” thick walls of the stately Georgian Brick home of his childhood. It is likely due to the influence of nature and Frank Lloyd Wright that Troy’s work is consistently respectful of, and integrated into, the architectural settings in which his design projects exist.
The Evolution of Troy's Creative Vision
Troy furthered his integration of natural elements into his landscape and interior design projects while based in Arizona and Southern California, but it was there that he purchased his first mid-century modern home - designed by acclaimed architect, Al Beadle. His world – and his designs – elevated in sophistication to also incorporate clean, functionality of classic modern design where walls of glass connected the indoors and outdoors with such minimal effort. While his modern design sensibilities have been heightened, Troy’s appreciation of all design genres is evident in the range and scope of the design projects completed by him and his masterful teams.
Reverence of Nature
Mingled with stylistic elements and curated items, it is no wonder that Troy’s reverence of nature also informs his design projects, as they are peacefully grounded and comfortable. His adherence to continuity and the use of natural materials help to create living spaces that are functional, dynamic and stylistically enduring.
